Below are some links which I found useful. Please use at your own discretion.

If you are fortunate enough to have time to prepare for surgery here are some things I did that I found helpful.

1) FRIENDS AND FAMILY

  • If you have the energy, contact friends and family early, then use the rest of your time to focus solely on yourself.
  • Appoint a family member to give updates to friends and other family. Let that family member know who you want on the list of updates.

2) PERSONAL PROJECTS/WORK PROJECTS

  • Decide what's most important. Either wrap it up, assign it to someone else or let it go. The faster you can get to step three the better for you.

3) PREPARE YOUR MIND AND SPIRIT

SEARCHING FOR A PHYSICIAN TIPS:

In addition to searching online for a surgeon who has qualifications that meet your needs, you can:

  • Look for support groups on your condition. Is there a social media page? Ask other patients who they recommend.
  • Interview the surgeon. Ask him or her how many surgeries of your type they have done? Ask them about the procedure. What approach will they take and why? Ask them about their complication rate. Ask them about the type of follow-up care they will be able to provide if there are complications.
